Craft Beer Wheat Days 1-2: The Classics

This week is going to work like this: every couple of days we’ll be featuring a style/styles.  We’ll list the beers featured (featured beers are $1 off all day) and give a quick breakdown of the style.

We’re starting off where most people are familiar, Witbiers and Hefeweizens.

Today’s Featured Beers:
Allagash White – Witbier
Sierra Nevada KellerWeiss – Hefeweizen
Brooklyn Brooklyner Weiss – Hefeweizen

Witbiers are a spicy wheat ale with refreshing flavors derived both from fermentation and the addition of spices such as coriander and orange peel. They’re notable for using unmalted wheat for at least 50% of the recipe.

Hefeweizens are unfiltered and have a flour-like maltiness from the wheat balanced by the clove & banana flavors imparted by the traditional yeast plus unusually high levels of carbonation. As opposed to witbiers hefeweizens use at least 50% malted wheat.
